(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) said it supports an offer from KKR Infrastructure to buy a 37.5 percent stake in the new network company FiberCop for EUR 1.8 billion. The binding offer values the company at EUR 7.7 billion in total. TIM said it would start talks immediately with the government on bringing in other investors in the new network operator.

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced the launch of a new initiative designed to reduce CO2 emissions via the marketing of eco-friendly products and services. The campaign, dubbed 'TIM Green', will start this summer with the sale of refurbished smartphones and a new 'green SIM'. The latter is half the size of existing cards, manufactured with 60 percent recycled plastic and comes in entirely biodegradable packaging, helping the company cut plastic consumption by around 13 tonnes per year.

Sky Italia launches 'Sky Wifi' fixed broadband service in 26 cities

(Telecompaper) Satellite broadcaster Sky Italia has finally launched its fixed broadband offer in an initial 26 cities throughout the country, rising to 120 by the end of the summer. The service is called 'Sky Wifi' and will first be available to Sky subscribers only, although the company plans to offer it non-subscribers in the future. It comes with a 1Gbps download and 300Mbps upload connection via Open Fiber's FTTH network, a 'Sky Wifi Hub' developed by Comcast that optimises bandwidth availability and a dedicated app to manage the service.
