Arctic Sea Ice Reaches Annual Low Point, 4th Lowest on Record
2015-09-16 15:27:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Climate Central: Arctic sea ice appears to have reached its annual summer low point, and, as expected, it is the fourth lowest in the four decades of record-keeping, the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colo., announced Tuesday. While summer ice melt is part of the normal seasonal sea ice cycle, the record lows reached in recent years are a clear sign of the warming-driven decline in Arctic sea ice. All 10 of the lowest sea ice extents on record have occurred since 2005. The Northwest Passage of...
Half of world's sea turtles have eaten plastic, study says
2015-09-15 02:09:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Independent: More than half the sea turtles in the world are thought to have eaten plastic or other forms of human rubbish, according to a new study. Queensland University academics studied drift maps of plastic and compared these with known turtle habitats and records of animals which died after eating plastic debris, the International Business Times (IBT) reported. They then used this to estimate how many turtles are likely to have eaten debris, either dumped in the oceans by humans or swept out to sea....

Climate: Organic Waste In Sea Spray Triggers Ice Formation In Clouds
2015-09-14 03:04:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Nature World: Breaking waves send organic waste into the air along with sea spray. It turns out that the waste itself, from ocean life, can trigger ice formation in clouds, according to researchers from the Arctic Research Programme. Phytoplankton, or plant life, produces the organic waste found in these airborne particles. This influences how clouds behave, and can factor into global climate, as researchers recently explained in a study. "It has been speculated in the past that some of this biological material...
