Poulsbo Village Albertsons will close in a month; 60 employees affected

The Albertsons supermarket in Poulsbo Village will close in about a month, the company's district manager announced to employees early June 5. Ryan Helton, operations specialist for Safeway's Tacoma district, said he expects all store employees to find employment within other stores in the company. Store manager Christine Hopper said the store has about 60 employees.

Max Efrein The Daily Courier At the start of next month, both the Albertsons in Prescott and Prescott Valley will be rebranded as the Pacific Northwest grocery chain Haggen. Prescott's store will close Sunday, May 31, at 6 p.m. and will re-open the afternoon of June 2. Prescott Valley's Albertsons will be doing a similar closure from Tuesday, June 2 at 6 p.m. to mid-afternoon Thursday, June 4. The move comes as part of a deal Safeway has made with the Federal Trade Commission to acquire Albertsons for $9.2 billion.

One of Tampa Bay's last remaining Albertsons stores to close

The Idaho-based grocer notified the state on Monday that it would lay off 86 employees from the Clearwater store at 2170 Gulf to Bay Blvd. An employee who asked not to be named said the store would close "on or around" May 28, the date specified on the layoff notice. The grocery industry is a hyper-competitive, cutthroat business.

Robert Edwards, who had been appointed CEO at the transaction close, will continue on with the company as vice chairman providing counsel to the Board and the organization on key strategic and integration matters.
