Twitter revenues surge 114% to USD 361 mln in Q3

(Telecompaper) Twitter said third quarter revenues soared 114 percent from the year before to USD 361 million, higher than the company's forecast of USD 330-340 million. The net loss meanwhile widened to 175.4 million from a loss the year earlier of 64.6 million, with the diluted net loss per share narrowing to 0.29 from a loss of 0.48 and the EBITDA rising to 68.3 million from 9.2 million. Twitter's user base grew 23 percent to 284 million monthly active users, with mobile accounting for 80 percent of users and 85 percent of revenues. Timeline views reached 181 billion, up 14 percent from the year before, with advertising revenue per thousand timeline views up 83 percent to USD 1.77. For the fourth quarter, the company is guiding for revenue of USD 440-450 million and adjusted EBITDA of USD 100-105 million. The group raised its full year outlook for revenues at USD 1.365-1.375 billion and adjusted EBITDA of USD 260-265 million.
Mitel offers USD 540 mln for Shoretel

(Telecompaper) Enterprise telephony specialist Mitel has offered to acquire Shoretel for USD 540 million. Its unsolicited bid of USD 8.10 cash per share is a 24 percent premium to Shoretel's closing stock price the last trading day before the announcement. The company went public with the offer after Shoretel's board rejected an initial approach. Mitel said it aims to be a consolidator in the business communications market and a merger with Shortel offers complementary market footprints, particularly in the US, where ShoreTel does more than 90 percent of its business. Mitel said its offer to Shoretel will remain open until 20 November and urged the company to engage in negotiations. Mitel CEO Richard McBee sent a letter to Shoretel's board of directors on 02 October and again on 20 October, outlining the proposal.
NetScout buys Danaher communications ops for USD 2.6 bln

(Telecompaper) Unified service delivery management specialist NetScout has agreed to buy Danaher's communications business for USD 2.6 billion in shares, creating a global provider of network management and cybersecurity systems. Danaher's communications business includes the market-leading brands of Tektronix Communications, Fluke Networks, and Arbor Networks. The data cabling tools business and carrier service provider tools business of Fluke Networks will be excluded from the transaction. Danaher's communications business generated USD 836 million in revenue for thr fiscal year to end December 2013, while NetScout generated USD 397 million in revenue for the fiscal year to end March. Following the sale, Danaher executive VP James Lico will join NetScout's board of directors. The current NetScout executive team will remain in place at the combined company, including co-founder and CEO Anil Singhal. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including obtaining regulatory and NetScout shareholder approval. The acquisition is expected to close next year. Until such time, the communications business will continue to operate separately from NetScout.

Qualcomm buys CSR for USD 2.5 bln

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm has agreed to acquire Wireless chip specialist CSR in a transaction valued at GBP 1.56 billion, or USD 2.5 billion, Bloomberg reported. CSR shareholders will get 900 pence per share, 37 percent than the closing share price on 14 October. CSR directors said they will recommend the offer to investors.
Nokia,China Mobile ink 4G equipment deal worth USD 970 mln

(Telecompaper) Nokia Networks and China Mobile have signed a framework agreement for mobile communication equipment and services valued at USD 970 million. Under the terms of the agreement, Nokia Networks will provide its 4G TD-LTE technology including Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and GSM wireless networking equipment, core application platforms, OSS, software, and services to support China Mobile's 4G wireless broadband network rollout this year and next. Deliveries under the agreement started in the first quarter of this year. China Mobile has so far deployed over 500,000 4G base stations, with the goal of building the world's largest TD-LTE network by the end of the year.
