Korea slaps operators with 45-day business suspension

(Telecompaper) South Korea's Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning has handed down a 45-day business suspension to the country's three mobile operators for excessive subsidies, Arirang News writes. KT will be banned from signing up new customers and allowing existing users from buying devices from 13 March, SK Telecom will follow from 5 April, and LG Uplus will have its suspension split into two periods, with the first to start on 13 March. The ministry decided to suspend two operators at the same time as the last time the operators were subjected to business suspensions separately, the other two would compete even harder. Meanwhile, Yonhap News reports that the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) is also expected to unveil new penalties against the mobile operators.
