Critics have say after delay, walkout over school staffing standards
2014-11-12 00:02:39| Industrial Machines - Topix.net
Critics of proposed new operating standards for schools today urged the Ohio Board of Education to reconsider the guidelines, arguing that they could eliminate music and art classes as well as librarians, counselors, school nurses and other staff. "I know the board does not want to deprive Ohio students of the arts, however, the proposed language and administrative code allows the quiet dismantling of quality programming in Ohio schools," said Kevin Dengel, orchestra director at Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools.

Critics Say UC Tuition Hikes Are 'Hostage Taking;' Do You Agree?
2014-11-07 23:41:51| IT Services - Topix.net
By Bay City News Service: University of California President Janet Napolitano's office called this week for a plan that would increase students' tuition by as much as 5 percent over the next five years unless the state provides comparable funding, a move that critics blasted as taking university students hostage. After years of steep hikes, the UC system froze tuition for the last two years, and upon taking office last year, Napolitano pledged the tuition freeze would remain in effect for the 2014-15 school year.

Critics of Dow herbicide ingredient sue U.S. EPA over approval
2014-10-23 02:47:50| Chemicals - Topix.net
A coalition of U.S. farmer and environmental groups filed a lawsuit on Wednesday seeking to overturn regulatory approval granted last week for a herbicide developed by Dow AgroSciences. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in California, argues that the Environmental Protection Agency did not adequately analyze the impact of one of the new herbicide's active ingredients, 2,4-D, before granting approval on Oct. 15 to Dow's Enlist Duo herbicide.
