Fracking health project puts numbers to debate, suggests air pollution may be bigger concern

Associated Press: A project examining the local health impacts from natural gas drilling is providing some of the first preliminary numbers about people who may be affected, and the results challenge the industry position that no one suffers but also suggest the problems may not be as widespread as some critics claim. The Southwest Pennsylvania Environmental Health Project has been trying to help people who feel they've been sickened by natural gas drilling or processing for about 18 months in one county south...

EPA orders air pollution controls for fracked gas wells

2013-08-24 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

McClatchy: Air pollution from thousands of natural gas wells that are fracked every year will be reduced under regulations that the Environmental Protection Agency issued on Wednesday. Its the first time the EPA has required air pollution controls at hydraulically fractured, or fracked, wells. The new rule targets smog-forming volatile organic compounds and air toxics that increase cancer risks. The same equipment also would trap methane, a potent heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere. President Barack Obama...

Hill: Climate change is a global scourge that requires action by everyone. American efforts to protect the planet are particularly vital to prevent the worst impacts. What most people dont realize, however, is that these efforts will be implemented by the states -- and that could be a very good thing. President Obamas plan for addressing climate change calls for reducing carbon pollution 17 percent below 2005 levels by 2020. The cornerstone is his directive to the Environmental Protection Agency to...
