Nordstrom shares plummeted more than 19 percent in late trading Thursday after the retail chain missed Wall Street earnings estimates and lowered its guidance for the year. The Seattle-based company blamed "softer sales trends," across all categories of merchandise, for a third-quarter performance that was "below company expectations."

For fashionistas in the Milwaukee area, Christmas is coming early with the store's 10 a.m. Oct. 23 opening date. Gone are the days of traveling to Chicago for designer apparel, accessories, footwear and beauty products from Nordstrom; the 144,000-square-foot location in Wauwatosa is a "hometown store" for shoppers, said store manager Elena Mallios.
