Insurers Don't Want to Pay $148M Dole Penalty

A group of insurance companies say they aren't liable for a $148 million judgment against Dole Food CEO David Murdock and others for bilking shareholders in a 2013 reverse merger. Arch Insurance, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Continental Casualty Insurance, Navigators Insurance, RSUI Indemnity and Berkley Insurance claim in a lawsuit filed last week that they insured Murdock, "his right-hand man" C. Michael Carter and DFC Holdings LLC. DFC is the company Murdock used to buy Dole Food Company Inc. during the time when the going-private merger took place, according to the complaint.

High court won't hear appeal over $124M drug penalty

The Supreme Court won't hear an appeal from a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary assessed more than $124 million in penalties for deceptive marketing of an anti-psychotic drug. The justices on Monday let stand a lower court ruling that said Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. should pay the penalties for violations of South Carolina law.

FAA proposes a $417,500 civil penalty against FedEx of Memphis, TN, for allegedly operating an aircraft that was not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. FAA alleges that FedEx failed to rebalance a horizontal stabilizer tab control surface on the Boeing 727 after repainting the part. FAA alleges that FedEx's failure to perform rebalancing rendered the aircraft unairworthy and that the company operated the aircraft on at least 133 flights when it was in that condition.
