Grupo Odebrecht SA , Latin America's largest engineering conglomerate, is considering selling its stake in petrochemical producer Braskem SA, according to three sources with direct knowledge of the situation. Odebrecht, controlled by the namesake millionaire Brazilian family, could exit Braskem in a joint transaction with state-controlled oil producer Petroleo Brasileiro SA, said the sources, who requested anonymity because the plan remains under study.

NEWS Marcelo Odebrecht indicted, Braskem to name new chairman

Brazilian plastics maker Braskem SA will hold an extraordinary general meeting on Aug. 4 to appoint a new chairman for its board of directors, following the July 20 indictment of current Chairman Marcelo Odebrecht for alleged involvement in a corruption scheme in state-run oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA, or Petrobras. Braskem confirmed to Plastics News that Newton de Souza, who is serving as interim CEO in construction company Odebrecht SA, will become chairman of Braskem's board.
