Some 100,000 customers were without service at the peak of last week's storm in which heavy, wet snow took town power lines across the state. By Sunday afternoon, Green Mountain Power was reporting about 2,500 outages, with the largest concentration in Rutland County.

Vermont's largest electric utility says its crews have restored power to all customers left in the dark by the first major snowstorm of the season. And with power restored in Vermont, Green Mountain Power is sending 42 line workers and 21 bucket trucks to New Hampshire to help with power restoration there.

Rutland Herald: The Vermont Natural Resources Council recently joined low-income advocacy partners, business and academic leaders, and other environmental organizations to call for putting a price on carbon pollution and sending the money back to Vermonters. The plan was accompanied by an economic study that showed that a carbon pollution tax, coupled with cuts in other taxes, would create jobs and reduce Vermonts greenhouse gas emissions. Starbucks says wrongly accused of fighting Vermont GMO labeling law

Starbucks Corp said on Monday it has been wrongly accused in online petitions of supporting a Grocery Manufacturers Association lawsuit to block Vermont's GMO labeling law. Petitions posted to websites such as Sumofus.org and Care2.com accused Starbucks of teaming with fellow GMA member Monsanto Co to kill GMO labeling in Vermont, which in May became the first U.S. state to pass a mandatory GMO labeling law that did not require another state to go first.
