Buyers paid steady to firm money for the shrinking supplies of yearling cattle this week. Calves in the Southern Plains and Southeast traded steady to $5 higher with demand for stocker cattle to send to wheat pasture. Price levels remain very attractive for yearlings coming off grass with good weighing conditions and strings of long-time weaned, fancy calves. The other side of the coin is extreme prejudice against un-weaned, fleshy bawlers (high risk) selling, in many cases, in small consignments of mixed quality and color. Amazon.com says Nov. 1 is the first day of the holiday shopping season, even though it's 55 days before Christmas. If you think Nov. 1 is a day to take down Halloween decorations and get ready for Thanksgiving, you're not thinking like Amazon.com .
