BlackBerry Doomed By First iPhone, Storm Failure

BlackBerry corporate leaders' inability to react effectively to market changes, specifically the first iPhone and AT&T's deal with Apple, doomed the famed smartphone maker. BlackBerry executives Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie were blown away by the original iPhone's browser and other media powers, but wrote it off as just another competitive threat -- not the worldwide, industry changer it turned into.

BlackBerry plans more job cuts

(Telecompaper) BlackBerry is cutting jobs at offices around the world as the smartphone maker continues to work on keeping its business profitable. A spokeswoman for the company declined to say how many employees were affected. The company had 7,000 employees as of September 2014. "We have made the decision to consolidate our device software, hardware and applications business, impacting a number of employees around the world," BlackBerry said in the statement reported by Bloomberg. In its most recent quarterly report, BlackBerry reported a return to profit but revenues continue to fall.
