South Korea does not celebrate Thanksgiving, but the hot deals at U.S. online retailers during the holiday season are changing the shopping habits of South Koreans who are aggrieved at marked-up prices of locally made and imported goods at hometown stores. The volume of goods ordered by Korean shoppers from websites overseas has surged in recent years and sales are forecast to set a record high this year above $1 billion.

Reverend Billy Holds a Thanksgiving Dinner on Monsanto's Front Lawn

New York-based activist Reverend Billy and several members of his Stop Shopping Choir held a Thanksgiving meal outside Monsanto's world headquarters in the suburban St. Louis community of Creve Coeur on Thursday, joined by around 25 people from San Antonio, Detroit, New York and nearby Ferguson. Everyone brought home-made organic food that was laid out on a folding table on the front lawn of the biotech giant's corporate campus.

Though sisters Mitzi Martinez-Pena and Tanya Pena were having fun shopping on Black Friday, the day didn't start on a cheery note at 4 a.m. Tradition, bonding and good deals lured people to Black Friday shopping, but not in the droves the day after Thanksgiving used to attract. The Target near Maple and Ridge opened at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving to big crowds, but by Black Friday, they were gone.
