Your next smartphone or EV will recharge to 70% in just two minutes, thanks to new lithium-ion battery tech
2014-10-14 16:58:55| Extremetech
Scientists at Nangyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore have developed a new lithium-ion battery that can be recharged to 70% capacity in just two minutes. This new lithium-ion battery (LIB) can also endure more than 10,000 charge/discharge cycles -- or about 20 times more than current LIBs. Perhaps most excitingly, though, NTU's new Li-ion tech has already been patented, is compatible with existing battery manufacturing processes, and has 'attracted interest from the industry.'

Researchers cannibalize old car tires to avert the lithium-ion battery crisis
2014-09-01 14:47:36| Extremetech
Lithium-ion batteries require a lot of graphite for anode material, and the cost of this material keeps going up. Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory may have found a way to use old tires as the perfect graphite alternative to keep costs down and improve battery efficiency.
