Z Energy warns it may face millions in backdated fuel excise duties
2015-09-04 13:46:00| Energy - Topix.net
Z Energy, the service station chain floated by Infratil and the New Zealand Super Fund two years ago, warned it may be facing millions of dollars of additional costs as the nation's customs service seeks to claw back excise duties stretching over the past three decades on leftover fuel in a pipeline from the Whangarei refinery. New Zealand Customs Service is looking into what it considers to be unpaid duties on fuel transported from the Whangarei refinery via a pipeline to the Wiri Oil Services terminal in South Auckland, which is jointly owned and operated by Z Energy, BP, Mobil and Chevron.

Millions at risk as NASA warns of 3 foot sea rise
2015-08-28 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Sky: The world is heading for a three-feet rise in sea level and NASA has warned it is too late to prevent it. Sea levels have risen about three inches since 1992 due to warmer temperatures and the burning of fossil fuels, but a further three feet would put millions of lives at risk. According to NASA, more than one-third of the human population - nearly 2.4bn people - lives within 100 km (60 miles) of an oceanic coast and low-lying capitals such as Dhaka in Bangladesh, with a population of 14 million...
NASA teleconference on sea level change warns of rising oceans
2015-08-28 04:07:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Gizmag: On Aug. 26, NASA held a media teleconference regarding current predictions on sea level rise, highlighting the risks to coastal populations in low-lying areas, and the inherent problems in creating reliable global models. A panel of experts from NASA's recently-founded Sea Level Change Team tells us that ocean levels are inexorably on the rise, but gaps in our understanding and ability to survey risk regions mean we don't know just how fast the change will take place. "People need to be prepared...
