Woodside Petroleum's $US2.75 billion deal to buy Apache Corporation's liquefied natural gas interests is being scrutinised by the competition watchdog, which is studying whether it may affect wholesale gas supply and prices in Western Australia. The transaction, announced in December, would have Woodside take Apache's stake in Chevron's $US29 billion Wheatstone liquefied natural gas project in WA, as well as its interest in the Balnaves oil field in the Carnarvon Basin.

Woodside could deliver lower dividend

Shareholders in Australia's largest oil and gas producer Woodside Petroleum are set to pocket smaller dividends this year if oil prices remain weak. JP Morgan researchers estimate Woodside's 2015 dividends could fall to 64 US cents per share if oil prices stay around $US50 a barrel, from an expected $US2.58 in 2014.

Woodside Petroleum is looking to take advantage of India's growing demand for liquid natural gas after agreeing to partner with conglomerate Adani Group. The Perth-based oil and gas business signed a memorandum of understanding with Adani in the Indian state of Gujarat at the weekend that will see the two companies work together to identify and develop potential LNG projects.
