The conference will be held at the Scheman Building, in Ames, IA, on Nov.13-14. The program is designed to answer daily concerns of swine practitioners. The conference focuses on emerging swine pathogens and their control, and improvements in diagnostics and risk-based controls useful for on-farm health plan development. Special emphasis is on information necessary to formulate management plans for disease control, for bio- security, and for food safety enhancement. This year the emphasis is on porcine epidemic diarrhea and the new challenges for swine veterinarians in better diagnosing and controlling this new disease that has had tremendous impact to the U.S. swine industry. read more

H3N1 Identified in Swine in Two States

Source: USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services The U.S. Department of Agriculture IAV-S surveillance program has identified several H3N1s in U.S. swine in at least two states since December 2013. Although this is not the first time H3N1s have been detected in swine in the United States, it is a rare occurrence and needs further examination. read more
