Brown-Forman posts slightly higher net income

Spirits maker Brown-Forman Corp. said Wednesday its second-quarter net income rose slightly because of sales growth for its flagship Jack Daniel's brand along with its tequilas and pricier premium whiskeys, offsetting declines for some of its other staples. Underlying net sales for the entire Jack Daniel's brand grew by 7 percent in the first half of the company's fiscal year, led by double-digit growth for Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey thanks to the product's expansion to new overseas markets.

Nike hikes dividend, stock climbs slightly

Nike on Thursday announced a 17 percent increase in its quarterly dividend to $0.28 per share. The dividend continues the company's balanced capital strategy, which includes dividends for shareholders, buying back shares and investing in the company.

Manitoba Telecom reports higher Q3 profit of $36.8M; revenue down slightly

Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. says year-over-year net income increased in the third quarter despite a small decline in revenue. The Winnipeg-based telecom which offers wireless, Internet and television and other services primarily in Manitoba, says it earned $36.8 million or 47 cents per share in the third quarter from $25.4 million or 38 cents in the comparable 2013 period.
