Australian engineers need to smarten up, Bentley Systems says

Australian construction companies need to start using global standards and technology on infrastructure projects to remain competitive internationally and cut costs, the chief executive of US software group Bentley Systems has warned. Gregory Bentley, one of five brothers who founded Bentley Systems in 1984, said British engineering groups had identified opportunities to win global projects by becoming "smarter" and adopting codes of practice that allowed them to work more closely with designers and builders.

Australian shares sink under weight of falling banks and resources

The Australian sharemarket suffered on Monday as the big four banks sold off in tandem with the major resources stocks, which were battered after iron ore and oil prices sunk over the weekend. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index lost 74 points, or 1.2 per cent, on Monday to 5846.1 points, while the broader All Ordinaries Index dipped 1.2 per cent to 5816.3 points, with oil, gas, and iron ore producers slugged the hardest.

Chevron to exit Australian shale gas as refining venture sold

Chevron abandoned Australian shale exploration and said it will sell its 50 percent stake in that nation's largest oil refiner. San Ramon-based Chevron notified Beach Energy, its partner in the central Australian shale project, that "the opportunity does not align strategically" with the U.S. explorer's portfolio, according to a statement Friday from Beach.
