(Telecompaper) Finnish operator Elisa said it will discontinue 3G service in 2023 as it ramps up investment in 4G and 5G. Any customers who still have 3G devices then will be switched automatically to its 2G network, but most will have reached the ends of their lifespans by then anyway, it added.

Elisa Finland claims to have sold first 5G phone in Nordic region

(Telecompaper) Elisa Finland claimed that the first 5G phone in the Nordic countries was sold on 03 July to Harri Hellstrom at its Elisa Kulma flagship store in Helsinki. The ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G handset was handed over by Veli-Matti Mattila, the CEO of Elisa. Hellstrom is a resident of Tampere, where one of the first Elisa 5G networks is located.
Finland awards 5G spectrum in 3.5 GHz auction to Telia, Elisa and DNA

(Telecompaper) The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (Ficora) has announced the results of the 5G auction that began on 26 September for licences to use the 34103800 MHz spectrum band. Telia Finland won band A for the frequencies 3410-3540 MHz, with a bid of EUR 30.26 million; Elisa won band B from 3540-3670 MHz with a bid of EUR 26.35 million; and DNA won band C from 3670-3800 MHz with a bid of EUR 21.00 million.
Elisa to launch 'Nordic TV' SVoD in Chinese market with CBM

(Telecompaper) Finnish operator Elisa said it has agreed with China Broadcasting and Television Media (CBM), a subsidiary of China Broadcasting Network, to provide the Nordic TV video service for a Chinese audience. The agreement with CBM opens access to 245 million cable TV households, and follows a pilot in 2017. They plan to start phasing in the service at the end of 2018.
