Intel decides that Chromebooks, for some reason, are key to beating ARM in the mobile market

At an event yesterday, Intel revealed the rather surprising next stage of its strategy for squeezing into the mobile market: Chromebooks! Following the failure of its smartphone efforts, and a slow start in the Windows 8 and Android tablet spaces, Intel now appears to targeting netbooks of all things. The more things change, the more things stay the same, I guess. Furthermore, not only was Google on hand at the event to trumpet its new allegiance with Intel and x86, but it also took the opportunity to stick a knife in the back of Chrome OS's support for ARM. I wouldn't be surprised if, as part of this renewed partnership with Intel, Chrome OS slowly shifts to an x86-only OS.

HTC sales recover in March, beating Q1 outlook

(Telecompaper) Smartphone maker HTC reported first-quarter sales down 22.6 percent year-on-year to TWD 42.8 billion. However, sales returned to growth in March, up 2.2 percent from a year earlier to TWD 16.2 billion, more than double the amount in February. This helped the company beat its guidance for quarterly sales, of TWD 34-36 billion, and roughly match sales from the fourth quarter, of TWD 43 billion. HTC still reported an operating loss of TWD 2.05 billion and net loss of TWD 1.88 billion for the first quarter. The company will release a detailed quarterly report later in the month.
