Hoping for a Price Surge, Oil Companies Keep Wells in Reserve
2015-12-25 22:03:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
New York Times: The price of oil keeps dropping. But that didnt stop a work crew from drilling a well recently on what was once a cornfield, carefully guiding the last sections of 13,000 feet of pipe spiraling into the hard Niobrara shale with a diamond-tipped bit. Their well, one of hundreds drilled by Anadarko Petroleum in eastern Colorados Wattenberg field this year, could someday gush as many as 800 barrels of crude oil a day. But Anadarko is not planning to produce a drop of crude from the well for at...
Hoping for an average US winter? Forget it
2015-12-23 15:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: As one of the warmest U.S. winters moves into the new year, nothing will change the pattern unless the polar vortex unexpectedly invades the country from the Arctic, meteorologists said. With home heating demand running 20 percent below normal, January through March would need to be as cold as early 2014 to make this an average winter, according to federal data. Last year the fast moving current of air encircling the Arctic, called the polar vortex, moved down from Canada, causing the coldest U.S....

Artificial trees: How ASU scientists are hoping to slow global warming
2015-11-11 23:35:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Arizona Republic: Scientists at Arizona State University are developing new technology capable of capturing excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, a task they believe is paramount to current efforts to reduce emissions. "We're essentially trying to find a way to balance the carbon budget," said Christophe Jospe, chief strategist for ASU's Center for Negative Carbon Emissions. CO2 traps heat, and though the Obama administration's Clean Power Plan addresses current emission levels, scientists at the CNCE say...

Telecom Italia hoping to close Inwit sale this year - report
2015-09-29 09:42:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia is looking to close a sale or merger of its mobile-phone tower unit Inwit by the end of 2015, according to two unnamed sources cited by Reuters. The news comes after the company's board gave CEO Marco Patuano a mandate to explore the sale of Inwit, whose share value has risen sharply since Telecom Italia raised around EUR 780 million in June from an IPO of a 40 percent stake in the company. One of the sources said Telecom Italia was prepared to cede control of Inwit but wanted to keep a minority stake in the unit. Numerous sources have suggested that Spain's Cellnex Telecom and Italian infrastructure fund F2i are interested in Inwit, without other possible bidders including state-controlled RaiWay and Mediaset-owned EI Towers.
