ELFA's Economic Activity Survey shows new business rising.

Reporting on economic activity of $903 billion equipment finance sector, ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index (MLFI-25) shows overall new business volume for June at $9.5 billion. This is up 4% from June 2014 and 34% from May. Year to date (YTD) cumulative new business volume increased 9% compared to 2014. Receivables over 30 days were 1.1%, and charge-offs remained at 0.2%. Also, credit approvals totaled 79.4%, up from 79.2% in May. Separately, MCI-EFI for July is 62.6.

Constellation buys fast rising Meiomi Pinot Noir

Mondavi wines owner Constellation Brands has bought Meiomi, a California Pinot Noir that didn't exist at the turn of the 21st Century, for a reported $315m. Constellation said today that it has completed its purchase of Meiomi, including brand rights and wine stocks.

Despite falling raw material costs, figures posted by U.S. Steel underline the damage imports are having on the US steel industry. The WSJ reported that U.S. Steel posted a 34% decline in revenue and a $261 million loss in the latest quarter, up from a $18 million loss for the same time last year.
