New control techniques for drones now let them perform aerial acrobatics faster than the eye can follow. When combined with gesture based control, multidrone formations can be tamed with the wave of an arm. The standard quadrotor is still the chosen form-factor for the all-purpose drone, but as their flightspeeds enter the regime where aerodynamic effects begin to dominate, hybrid wing designs may soon prevail.
