Imperial Oil is an integrated Canadian energy company, in effect Exxon Mobil's 69.6%-owned Canadian subsidiary. During the continued oil price decline, at least in comparison with other producers, it has not done badly, partly because its size, balance sheet and huge parent have made it appear to be among the "safer" bets, and partly because the support it has received from its downstream operations has offset the declining returns on production.
