Volta Industries adding two electric car charging stations on Maui, more on Oahu next year

As the electric and hybrid vehicle industry reaches almost 8 percent of the vehicle market share in Hawaii, Volta Industries is adding two electric vehicle charging stations on Maui by Friday and plans to roll out more across Oahu in 2015. The two new stations will be located at the Whole Foods Market at the Maui Mall in Kahului, said Arden Penton , director of media and operations for the Honolulu company.

For several years now we've been hearing stories about New York City's public payphone kiosks being turned into Wi-Fi hotspots, and it finally looks like something's going to happen. LinkNYC - a group that includes tech, telecom, and ad firms, as well as the Mayor's Office of Technology and Innovation - plans to begin work next year converting the city's thousands of payphone kiosks into Link 'connection points' offering: The group behind the plans, which includes chip giant Qualcomm, is promising "the fastest and largest free municipal Wi-Fi deployment in the world," with the high-tech connection points coming to 10,000 locations throughout the city's five boroughs.
Toyota to begin selling emissions-free cars in December; lack of filling stations is an issue

There will only be a few hundred, and they won't be cheap, but Toyota is about to take its first small step into the unproven market for emissions-free, hydrogen-powered vehicles. The world's largest automaker announced Tuesday that it will begin selling fuel cell cars in Japan on Dec. 15 and in the U.S. and Europe in mid-2015.
