Quantum Break is gorgeous, stuck at 720p on the Xbox One
2016-03-21 19:47:28| Extremetech
Quantum Break was supposed to be a game-defining title on Xbox One with a full 1080p resolution. Unfortunately, final code tests show that's not the case.
NIST Physicists create fundamentally accurate quantum thermometer.
2016-03-16 13:31:07| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Physicists at NIST discovered how to calibrate temperature measurements by monitoring motions of nanomechanical system governed by rules of quantum mechanics. While not yet ready for commercialization, method reveals how object's thermal energy can be precisely determined by observing its physical properties at quantum scale. Initial demonstration has absolute accuracy within few percentage points, and NIST approach works over temperature range encompassing cryogenic and room temperatures.

Quantum Computer Leap Could Make Today's Encryption Passe
2016-03-08 21:40:34| TechNewsWorld
Researchers at MIT and the University of Innsbruck last week announced that they had designed and constructed the world's first scalable quantum computer, a development that could make existing encryption technology obsolete. They built the computer using five atoms in an ion trap. The researchers used laser pulses to carry out an algorithm on each atom to correctly factor the number 15.

NIST's PML/JILA Reduce Quantum Noise via atom entanglement.
2016-03-08 14:31:10| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Researchers from NIST's Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) and JILA are conducting proof-of-principle work to reduce quantum noise in quantum sensors. Potential areas of use include increasing precision of atomic clocks as well as inertial sensors, gravimetry, and electromagnetic field sensing. By experimenting with entangling atoms, team under PML/JILA’s James Thompson demonstrated they can squeeze "quantum fuzziness" out of value of interest by approximate factor of 60 in noise variance.
