Hybrid and electric vehicles saw a great month in May, according to the Electric Drive Transportation Association just prior to its annual conference in Washington, DC. For this year, hybrid sales have reached 212,711, 14% higher than year-to-date sales at this point in 2012. May sales are more than double the 3,378 plug-in vehicles that were sold in May 2012, 130% increase over last year. Plug-in sales have reached 32,305 so far this year, and just passed 100,000 units in the market. "These cars use far less gasoline than their combustion engine counterparts or no gas at all, said EDTA President Brian Wynne. Not to mention they're incredibly fun to drive." Automakers have been lowering prices this year on models such as Nissan Leaf and Honda Fit EV, making market more competitive and helping to increase sales.
