(Telecompaper) Vodafone Spain has followed its recent successful connection of a 5G-enabled smartphone to its live network for a video call between Madrid and Barcelona by announcing the deployment of 11 nodes with 5G technology in the Catalan capital, delivering download speeds of up to 1.7 Gbps. The operator will be using the 5G network on the 3.7GHz band to carry out a number of trials at MWC 2019, including a connected vehicle travelling around Barcelona's streets and reporting on its position to the operator's stand, synchronising several musicians performing the same song from different locations and running cloud-based VR gaming and connected surgery demos. It will also be showcasing 5G Converter technology that can be integrated into routers, appliances, smart speakers and even smartphones to provide 5G connectivity to 4G, 3G or 2G devices via Wi-Fi.
