Report finds little progress at curbing Border Patrol abuses

The system for disciplining abusive or corrupt Border Patrol agents and officers is so flawed that it hardly acts to deter criminal misconduct in the nation's largest law enforcement agency, according to an independent task force that investigated the problems. The team's 49-page final report will be submitted Tuesday to a homeland security advisory council that commissioned it, and then given to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.

Lynden man gets prison for driving truck at border agents

A Lynden man was sentenced Monday, Jan. 25, to eight months in prison for driving his truck at three U.S. Border Patrol agents in July. Seattle U.S. District Court Judge James L. Robart also sentenced Wayne Groen to four months of home detention and 50 hours of community service, as well as fining him $10,000 for assaulting the federal officers.
