This is coastal BC's premier local conference on waste and recycling and will bring together 250 delegates for this three day event. This is coastal BC's premier local conference on waste and recycling and will bring together 250 delegates for this three day event. Our conference theme, "Redesigning Waste Solutions" will bring together waste and recycling professionals to network and explore leading edge topics that affect the waste management and recycling sector today. Joining us are two renowned sustainability experts. Vanessa Timmer, co-founder and Executive Director of One Earth, a nonprofit 'think and do' tank based in Vancouver, known for bringing people, ideas and activities together to accelerate the transition towards sustainability. Also joining us will be Lauren Ahkiam, Senior Research & Policy Analyst on the Don't Waste LA Project, a coalition of community, environmental, faith and labor organizations working to increase Los Angeles, CA recycling and composting while addressing the challenges faced by the solid waste industry. Some of the topics being addressed during the conference include: The Role of Cities in Advancing Sustainable Consumption Illegal Dumping and Material Abandonment Extended Consumer Responsibility General Motors Quest for Zero Landfill Cleaning Up Waste - A Blueprint for Cities Packaging and Printed Paper EPR Medical cannabis waste management Living the zero waste lifestyle Management of Challenging Wastes City of Surrey Biofuels project Wood Waste Recycling Tours being offered include Our Ecovillage, a model sustainable community; the award winning Hartland Landfill; and Vancouver Island Brewery & Phillips Brewery, two craft breweries that take sustainability to the next level. Roundtable discussions for Local Government, First Nations and Depot operators provide an opportunity for participants to learn best practices and share solutions to some of the challenges they encounter.
