4G not leading to reduction in Wi-Fi usage

2015-04-06 12:28:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The growing adoption of 4G has not led to a reduction in use of Wi-Fi services by Dutch mobile consumers, according to research from the Telecompaper Consumer Panel. Only 19 percent of consumers with a 4G subscription said they use Wi-Fi less, while 77 percent said the faster 4G service had not led to less Wi-Fi use. Around a third said they use more Wi-Fi since switching from 3G to 4G. A 4G subscription does lead to more data usage. Over one in five of respondents in the survey said they watch online videos more since switching to 4G, 17 percent stream music more, and 14 percent watch VoD services more often. The increasingly larger displays on 4G smartphones also supports increased data usage.
