AT&T to license connected home service to Telefonica

2014-09-09 09:04:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) AT&T has revealed that Telefonica will be the first operator to license its Digital Life connected home technology. In an announcement made at the CTIA wireless industry conference in Las Vegas, AT&T said Telefonica would be running limited trials in Europe of the Digital Life service first launched in 15 US cities in April 2013. Although the companies didn't release any details of the agreement, Telefonica told Reuters that European customers would be offered a version of Digital Life for three to six months before evaluating results of the trial. AT&T Mobility CEO Glenn Lurie said the company is in talks with numerous other potential global partners about similar licensing agreements. "We spent a lot of money building the platform ... This is just another way to take those same assets and monetise them, and not just in the US, but globally," commented Lurie in an interview, adding that "Telefonica's digital team is very innovative, and we are very honored they chose us." AT&T's Digital Life system allows homeowners to control surveillance cameras, motion sensors, thermostats and a host of other appliances through a mobile app.
