Aereo expands TV service to NYC metro area
2013-02-25 21:51:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Aereo has announced that its television service is now available to people living in the New York City metropolitan area. The New York City metropolitan region includes 29 counties across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Previously, Aereo was only available to residents of New York City's five boroughs. The expansion into the NYC metropolitan area comes less than two months after the company's announcements in January of its intention to expand to 22 additional markets in 2013. Aereo's remote, cloud-based antenna/DVR technology enables consumers to pause, rewind and fast-forward programming they are watching live, or save a programme for future viewing. No equipment installation is necessary and plans start at USD 1 per day, USD 8 per month or USD 80 per year. Aereo can extend to smart mobile devices and is currently supported on iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Chrome, Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, Safari, Opera, AppleTV (via airplay) and Roku devices. In the New York City metro area, there are 30 over-the-air broadcast channels available to consumers using Aereo's technology. Aereo also announced the launch of its first advertising campaign, which debuts on city billboards, phone kiosks and at key city transit points, including waterways, commuter trains and Path transit hubs this week.
