(Telecompaper) Amazon.com plans to release a set-top box to support its streaming video services, people with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg. The device, due later this year, will connect to televisions and also provide access to Amazon's expanding video services, which include the Amazon Video on Demand store and Prime Instant Video. The box is being developed by Amazon's Lab126 division in Cupertino, California and run by Malachy Moynihan, a former vice president at Cisco Systems who worked on the company's various consumer video initiatives. No details on pricing or the name of the device were known yet.
