(Telecompaper) Apple has passed the milestone of 50 billion downloads on the iTunes App Store. The company earlier started a contest to give the person who downloaded the 50 billionth item a voucher worth USD 10,000 to spend on iTunes and another 50 people prizes worth USD 500. Apple reached 40 billion downloads in January, after the total doubled in 2012. Separately, Google reported that its Play store has passed 48 billion downloads. At its I/O developers conference, the company said it saw 2.5 billion Android apps installed in the last month alone.
