Athens man arrested after stealing cart full of groceries

Verlin Baines Dobbs, 51, of Kennington Drive was arrested Monday afternoon after he and a woman stole a shopping-full of groceries from Kroger on U.S. Highway 29 North, Athens-Clarke County police said. A manager called 911 after seeing Dobbs and the woman speed away in a car, giving police the license plate number of a car registered to a Kennington Drive woman whose last name also was Dobbs.
