BBC to launch OTT subscription service in US in 2016

(Telecompaper) BBC Director General Tony Hall has confirmed plans for the corporation to launch a new OTT video service in the US in 2016. Speaking at the Royal Television Society convention in Cambridge, Hall said the new service would showcase British actors and programme makers. The BBC plans to work with global partners over the next few years to grow the BBC Worldwide division further. Overall, it thinks the plans will increase commercial returns from Worldwide to the BBC to GBP 1.2 billion over the next five years more than 15 percent higher than the returns of the previous five years.
