BT adds 341,000 retail fibre customers in Q1

(Telecompaper) BT Group said revenues for its first quarter to end June fell 2 percent year-on-year to GBP 4.35 billion, with a reduction of GBP 46 million in transit revenue and a GBP 71 million negative impact from foreign exchange movements. Underlying revenue excluding transit increased 0.5 percent. Operating costs decreased by GBP 90 million or 3 percent, with adjusted EBITDA up 7 percent to GBP 1.43 billion. Adjusted profit before tax was GBP 638 million, up 7 percent. Reported profit before tax (which includes specific items) was GBP 546 million, up 22 percent. Openreach achieved 341,000 million net fibre additions in the quarter, with more than 3 million homes and businesses now connected. BT added 226,000 retail fibre broadband customers, for a total of 2.3 million customers. The UK broadband market grew by 163,000 in the quarter, of which BT's share of net additions was 64 percent or 104,000. Overall DSL and fibre broadband market net additions were 163,000, down 14 percent from the year before. BT Global Services revenue fell 6 percent from the year before to GBP 1.64 billion on the back of a GBP 12 million decrease in transit revenue and a GBP 68 million negative impact from foreign exchange movements. BT Global Services continued to grow underlying revenue growth in the high-growth regions of Asia Pacific, Latin America, Turkey, the Middle East and Africa. This was offset by declines across other regions, with lower public sector revenue in the UK. Total order intake for the quarter was GBP 1.1 billion, down 38 percent year-on-year. On a rolling twelve month basis, order intake fell 8 percent.
