The general manager of the IESI Bethlehem landfill confirmed Wednesday afternoon its owner Canadian-based Progressive Waste Solutions, Ltd. of Ontario will merge with Texas company Waste Connections, Inc. to create the third largest waste management services company in North America. IESI manager Al Schleyer reported during a Lower Saucon landfill committee meeting he learned of the $2.67 billion merger in an email from his company's corporate offices located in Vaughn, Canada and said he could offer no further comment on how the deal would affect the local landfill except that it's business as usual for him and his staff of ten employees.
