Pilots of the Delta Air Lines Inc. jet that skidded off a New York runway last week set automatic braking systems to maximum operation but didn't "sense any wheel brake deceleration," according to federal investigators. The captain of the MD-88 has told investigators the plane veered left shortly after touching down on a snow-covered runway at La Guardia Airport, and he was unable to slow it down or keep it on the runway despite the maximum brake settings, the National Transportation Safety Board said Monday.
