(Telecompaper) US operator Cablevision is launching a mobile phone service based on Wi-Fi networks, Cablevision COO Kristin Dolan told the Wall Street Journal. The service called Freewheel will build off its own network of 1.1 million hotspots in the New York area. Existing Cablevision customers can subscribe to unlimited calls, texts and data for USD 9.95 per month, and non-Cablevision customers will pay USD 29.95 per month. The service will be marketed initially in the New York area with the Motorola Moto G phone. Later it will expand to other areas and could be available on other phones via an app. The phone will be sold for USD 99.95 per month.
