Fresh produce invitingly displayed for sale is one way the Mariano's grocery chain, which greatly expanded its presence in the Chicago market during 2014, hopes to win over customers. In the wake of the news late last year that full-service grocery chain Dominick's would abruptly shutter its entire chain of more than 70 stores in the Chicago area, the grocery business this year began to be dominated by stores at the high-end, including most notably Mariano's and Whole Foods Market, and the discount grocery chains at the low-end, which increasingly in Chicago have grown to include Walmart , Target, Trader Joe's and Aldi's, as well as big-box players such as Costco , Sam's Club and Meijer.
