China search engines must report banned content, check ads

2016-06-27 08:52:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) China has imposed new rules on Baidu and other search engines, saying they must report banned content and verify advertiser qualifications, Bloomberg reported, citing a statement from the Cyberspace Administration of China. The rules, set to take effect on 1 August, mean search engines operating in the country will be prohibited from providing banned information in various formats including links, summaries, cached pages, associative words, related searches and relevant recommendations. They will also be required to report websites and applications that contain prohibited content when spotted.
