(Telecompaper) Cisco and CERN will collaborate on the development of next-generation computing systems. Cisco will be working with CERN openlab, CERN's platform for science and industry partnerships. The two will investigate new concepts that build on the latest evolution of hardware, heterogeneous system designs and increasing functionality of the network interface hardware. CERN openlab will provide a framework to develop and prototype state-of-the-art technologies. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) research programme involves the collection and analysis of data from millions of sensors, which in turn produce data at a rate of up to a petabyte per second. Over the next decade, CERN expects these rates to grow significantly, which will require novel approaches in many IT related domains.
