(Telecompaper) Claro Brasil has launched its 4G service in the host cities of the Confederations Cup (Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza, Recife, Belo Horizonte and Salvador), as well as in Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Campos do Jordao, Paraty and Buzios. The 4G Max service will offer speeds from 20 Mbps to 60 Mbps, compared to the current average of around 6 Mbps for the 3G Max service. It is available in 90 percent of the host cities of the football competition, surpassing the goal set by the Brazilian government of at least 50 percent. The cheapest package with 4G access costs BRL 207, with 100 minutes voice and 5 GB data. Modems with 2 GB, 5 GB and 10 GB data cost respectively BRL 79, BRL 119 and BRL 199. Nine devices are initially available for use on the 4G Max network: the Nokia Lumia 820, Samsung Galaxy Express, Motorola Razr HD, LG Optimus G, Galaxy S3 LTE, Lumia 920, Xperia ZQ, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S4. According to Claro Brasil president Carlos Zenteno, the operator has invested BRL 510 million in the infrastructure for the first stage of 4G implementation. Speaking at the launch event, Anatel president Joao Batista de Rezende said the regulator estimates that by the end of 2013 some 4 million devices compatible with 4G will be available on the market.
