Cathay Pacific Airways says a preliminary inspection after an emergency landing at a remote air base in Alaska's Aleutian Islands indicates an equipment cooling fan failed. The Hong Kong-based airline said Thursday that smoke was detected in the cockpit, prompting the captain of Flight CX884 to divert to Eareckson Air Station on Shemya Island early Wednesday.
