Dark Knight-style, holographic 3D imaging will help firefighters save lives

This week researchers announced a breakthrough in digital holography that could help firefighters see through a blazing inferno to find people in need of rescue. The technology uses lasers to view a room in three dimensions and construct an image which shows the position of objects - such as people - through opaque clouds of smoke, and even huge plumes of flame.
