Dish in merger talks with T-Mobile US - report

2015-06-04 10:06:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Dish is in talks to merge with T-Mobile US, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Dish CEO Charlie Ergen would become chairman for the combined company while T-Mobile US CEO John Legere would serve as its CEO. Tougher questions about a purchase price and the mix of cash and stock that would be used to pay for a deal remain unresolved, the sources said. One of the people characterized the talks as at "the formative stage," and said the deal could still fall through. A deal would likely be very large. T-Mobile has a market capitalization of about USD 31 billion, a little below Dish's USD 33 billion. The deal would combine the country's second-largest satellite TV operator with its fourth-largest wireless carrier.
